Clean Water Plan

This comprehensive, $2 billion, long-term plan will significantly reduce the overflows of diluted, untreated wastewater into the region’s rivers. It is designed to be affordable, flexible enough to adapt to evolving technology and regional in scale. It will improve the water quality of our local waterways by: expanding the capacity of our North Side treatment plant; making efforts to assume ownership and maintenance of at least 200 miles of multi-municipal sewers; preventing stormwater and groundwater from entering the sewer system through the use of green technology and other source control methods; and upgrading conveyance systems and grey infrastructure.
