ALCOSAN offers exciting week-long summer camps for grades 4-8 (Summer Science) and 9-12 (Clean Water Academy) that includes hands-on activities and field trips for students. Students, alongside ALCOSAN staff and other STEAM-related professionals, learn about the science and engineering behind wastewater treatment and protecting our environment.

Summer Science Camp – Grades 4-8

ALCOSAN Summer Science offers students in grades 4-8 an exciting week of hands-on activities and field trips related to the sciences of wastewater treatment and engineering. Each session is designed using Pennsylvania standards for Environment & Ecology as well as Science & Technology and Engineering Education. Registration for 2024 will open February 1, 2024.

July 15-19 or July 22-26

Program Eligibility

Students currently in grades 4-8 who live in or attend schools in the ALCOSAN service area and who maintain a C or higher in math or science.

Program Costs

There are no fees associated with the virtual Summer Science program.

Daily Schedule

Program hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily.

Clean Water Academy – Grades 9-12

The ALCOSAN Clean Water Academy program is a two-week program ! This STEM enrichment program provides high school students with content related to wastewater treatment in the fields of science, technology, engineering, chemistry, microbiology, and math.

Students take an in-depth tour of ALCOSAN’s wastewater treatment plant. Each year, ALCOSAN collaborates with a local university, facilitated by ALCOSAN staff along with university faculty. 

Students engage with a wide variety of STEM professionals including engineers, scientists, information technologists, and tradespeople from ALCOSAN and the university. Students will participate in hands-on lab activities as well as a special technology project.

Program Eligibility

Current high school students who live in or attend schools in the ALCOSAN service area are eligible to participate.

Program Costs

There are no fees associated with the Clean Water Academy. Lunch will be provided along with a morning and afternoon snack.

Daily Schedule

Program hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. (Students may arrive as early as 8:30 a.m. and depart no later than 3:45 p.m.)

Please note that enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, so please submit completed applications as soon as possible.

Please note:  Completing the online form is the beginning of the registration process and therefore serves as a placeholder for the camper. Registration will be completed once a representative from Scholastic Outreach contacts the parent, and receives the remaining required documents.

Parent/Student Orientation

All parents of campers must attend the following orientation session:
Saturday, June 29, 2024 - 10am-11am
