(Pittsburgh – September 13, 2025) – Allegheny County Sanitary Authority welcomed nearly 1700 people to its 23rd annual Open House on Saturday, September 13th. New this year, ALCOSAN showcased its new outfall as part of the popular plant tour.

Commissioned in January 2025, the new outfall at the north end of the plant marks a significant milestone in ALCOSAN’s plant expansion and Clean Water Plan.

“It is an exciting time to be here at ALCOSAN,” said Arletta Scott Williams, ALCOSAN’s executive director. “Open House has always been the day we look forward to hosting our neighbors.  This year’s Open House is a remarkable one, as we showcase major milestones taking place both within the plant and in our community.”

Guests also enjoyed photo opportunities with Frankie the Fish, gained hands-on science experience by learning about ALCOSAN’s “bugs” (microbes involved in the secondary treatment process), interacted with wildlife, and more – including:

  • The Clean Water Plan Zone: Visitors learned about the Clean Water Plan, designed to increase treatment capacity and reducing sewer overflows throughout the region. Stations included hands-on interactive activities for all four pillars: Regionalization, GROW Program, Plant Expansion and the Regional Tunnel System

  • PUP Tent: Vistors took the PUP Pledge, visited with therapy dogs and filled doggy bags with take-home treats for their pups
  • Virtual Sewer: An immersive experience that allows guests to walk through a simulated sewer

… And much more!
