ALCOSAN and the Pittsburgh District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently signed an agreement to authorize funding for construction of a grit chamber along Spring Garden Run. The grit chamber construction is estimated to cost approximately $4.3 million and expected to finish by the end of 2024. Once implemented, the chamber will remove 200,000 pounds of grit and sediment annually from the sewer system; grit and sediment that can cause long-term damage to ALCOSAN’s infrastructure.
