Allegheny River Tunnel

The Allegheny River Tunnel (ART) project will be the second of the three tunnel projects. Once complete, it will consist of 6.2 miles of deep tunnel connecting to the Ohio River Tunnel near the Veterans’ Bridge. The project is also anticipated to include 13 deep shafts, 17 regulator structures, and other near surface facilities to be constructed in 7 municipalities – including the City of Pittsburgh, Millvale, Shaler, Etna, Sharpsburg, O’Hara and Aspinwall. This new infrastructure will be connected to the approximately 6 miles of deep tunnel interceptors that already exist in the project area.
