Why Build a Regional Tunnel System?

The new regional tunnel system will consist of three major tunnel projects, all approximately 150+ feet deep, which will capture wet weather combined sewer overflows and move them to the plant for treatment.

At ALCOSAN, we know construction delays and closures can impact your daily travels. We hope to mitigate some of the frustration by providing timely closure or delay notices on this page, as well as through our social channels.

Fort Pitt Boulevard Lane Restrictions

As we continue our efforts, we want to inform you of an upcoming temporary traffic adjustment that will be taking place along Fort Pitt Boulevard. From Monday, March 20th through Thursday, March 23rd, there will be a single lane restriction nightly between the hours of 7:00 PM and 5:00 AM. This lane restriction is necessary to facilitate safe and efficient construction work as part of our ongoing project.

We understand that this may cause some inconvenience for commuters during these hours, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.

Riverfront Trail Closures

As ALCOSAN continues work towards construction of the new Ohio River Tunnel, we have to do core borings along the tunnel route. Because of this work, we will have to temporarily close portions of the riverfront trail, but detour and closure signs will be prominently displayed.

The schedule and areas of the closures are:

  • 10/19-11/2 – Trail closure between Westhall and Doerr Streets
  • 11/2-11/17 – Trail closure between Doerr St. and Preble Ave. (side street)
  • 12/1-12/17 – Trail closure between Island Ave. and N. Franklin St.
  • 12/17-12/31 – Trail closure between N. Franklin St. and Kroll Dr.
