The Spring Garden Grit Chamber will include construction of a grit management facility in the Spring Garden watershed. Near the intersection of Spring Garden Avenue and Wilson Road, Spring Garden Run, an ephemeral stream, enters a City of Pittsburgh 48-inch combined sewer and is conveyed to the ALCOSAN system at A-60 near the Heinz Plant on the northside. This stream carries sediment that eventually gets deposited in the ALCOSAN deep tunnel system. The goal of this project is to keep this stream material from entering the ALCOSAN system. This project is partially funded by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, who will be an active partner.
