ALCOSAN’s GROW Program Awards Over $2.9 Million in 10th Cycle

The Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) awarded over $2.9 million in Green Revitalization of our Waterways (GROW) grants in the program’s tenth cycle to seven of our partner municipalities and municipal authorities.

The GROW program, created by ALCOSAN in 2016, helps the municipalities and authorities fund meaningful source control projects that help keep excess water out of the sewer system.

ALCOSAN’s GROW program has successfully allocated grants totaling over $77.5 million for source control projects such as green infrastructure, infiltration and inflow, sewer separation and direct stream inflow removal to local municipalities and authorities.

These projects are poised to significantly reduce overflows into the region’s waterways by more than 237 million gallons per year. Thus far, the completed GROW projects are estimated to have removed over 1.1 billion gallons of water per year from the system.

Municipalities or municipal sewer authorities within the ALCOSAN service area are encouraged to apply for GROW grants. The eleventh cycle is currently underway, and ALCOSAN is actively coordinating informational meetings to expertly guide municipalities through the application process.
