August 5, 2014 – The Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) today created an expanded and coordinated communications division, and hired Jeanne K. Clark as public information officer. The new division will include community, municipal, and customer outreach; public relations and marketing; government relations; scholastic programs; media relations; and social media. Several other new positions being created include a manager of municipal partners’ relations and a coordinator of social media.

"This is the next major step in expanding my initiative to create a more open and transparent ALCOSAN," said Board of Directors Chair John K. Weinstein, who also serves as treasurer of Allegheny County. "We have a great story to tell, and want all our customers, community groups, and municipal partners to be part of making ALCOSAN even better. We can only meet the challenges of keeping our region safe by working together, with everyone at the table.

"ALCOSAN is nationally recognized for its excellent work in protecting our public health, safety, environment, and economy by ensuring safe water to the citizens of the region, but we know we must constantly strive for improvement," continued Weinstein. "By engaging the entire community, we know we can make the promise of continual improvement a reality.

"I am extremely pleased that Jeanne Clark has joined the ALCOSAN family," continued Weinstein. "She comes with a record of extraordinary success as a media strategist, author, trainer, and communicator, with an impressive knowledge of environmental issues and regulations. She has a remarkable ability to engage citizens in understanding and solving complex problems."

"I am so honored to join the 345 employees of ALCOSAN to help tell the public of their great work," said Clark, who served as director of communications for Citizens for Pennsylvania’s Future (PennFuture) for 13 years. "And I can’t wait to be part of the authority’s award-winning free open house and festival on Saturday, September 20. It’s a great event for thousands of area families, with tours of our plant and lab, environmental exhibits, hands-on demonstrations, and activities for all ages."
