Incorporated in March 1946 under the Pennsylvania Municipality Authority Act.

Primary treatment facilities constructed between 1956-1959 with primary treatment beginning in June 1959.
Secondary treatment facilities constructed between 1970-1973 and placed into service October 1973.
Employs 300 people full-time. Union employee members of the Utility Workers of America Local 433 and the Teamsters Local 249.
Almost 320,000 residential, commercial and industrial accounts serving a population of 896,500 in 83 communities including the City of Pittsburgh.
Occupies 56 acres along the Ohio River on the Pittsburgh North Side.
Process an average of 200 million gallons of wastewater daily 24 hours a day, 356 days a year.
Governed by a seven-member Board of Directors each serving a five year term. The Mayor of Pittsburgh appoints three, the Allegheny County Commissioners appoints three, and one joint City/County appointment.
Appointed by the Board to carry out Authority policies.
Financed by user charges. Capital funds are raised through bond sales. The Authority is a non-profit governmental body (not a country agency).
