Sewer Overflow Advisory Key (SOAK)
CURRENT SOAK STATUS:
THE SOAK Alert System is now inactive. Alerts are active from May 1 to October 31.
Effective Date/Time: October 27, 2019 - 1:29 p.m.
Overflows have ceased;
Waterways may still be impaired.
During wet weather, conditions can change on area rivers, streams and creeks, making them less suitable for many recreational activities.* In addition to the hazards of fast-moving water and debris washed from land, sewers can overflow where they connect to the ALCOSAN collection system. These overflows can be a source of bacteria that may be harmful if swallowed or exposed to an open wound. This Sewer Overflow Advisory Key (SOAK) alerts the public when overflows in the ALCOSAN collection system are impacting area waterways during ALCOSAN’s NPDES permit summer reporting period, May 1 to October 31. *Due to the possibility of high flows, floating debris washed from land and poor visibility during wet weather conditions, extreme caution should be used in all activities.
