Sewer Overflow Advisory Key (SOAK)
CURRENT SOAK STATUS:
Effective Date/Time: Sunday, June 16, 2013 / 3:50 p.m.
Wet weather overflows have ceased;
Rivers, streams and creeks may still be impaired.
During wet weather, conditions can change on area rivers, streams and creeks, making them less suitable for many recreational activities. In addition to the hazards of fast-moving water and debris washed from land, sewers can overflow where they connect to the ALCOSAN collection system. These overflows can be a source of bacteria that may be harmful if swallowed or exposed to an open wound. This Sewer Overflow Advisory Key (SOAK) alerts the public when overflows in the ALCOSAN collection system are impacting area waterways during the recreational boating season, May 15 to September 30.
