ALCOSAN Summer Science offers students in grades 4 through 8 an exciting week of hands-on activities and field trips related to the sciences of wastewater treatment and engineering. Each session is designed using Pennsylvania standards for Environment & Ecology as well as Science & Technology and Engineering Education.
Camp Activity Descriptions:
Summer Science is going green this year. Students will learn the importance of protecting the environment by working together on hands-on STEM activities featuring green technology.
Campers in grades 4 and 5 will build a rain garden and turn kitchen food waste into rich, organic compost by letting worms do the work.
Activities for students in grades 6, 7 and 8 will include renovating a bioswale and visiting Chatham University's sustainable Eden Hall campus.
2019 Program Dates:
Session 1: June 17-21 (Grades 4-5 only)
Session 2: June 24-28 (Grades 4-5 only)
Session 3: July 8-12 (Grades 6, 7 & 8)
Who is Eligible to Participate?
Students currently in grades 4-8 who live or attend schools in the ALCOSAN service area.
How Much Does the Program Cost?
There are no fees associated with the Summer Science Program; however, students MUST bring their own lunch. A morning and afternoon snack will be provided daily. Pizza will be provided for lunch on Friday during each camp session.
What is the Program Schedule?
Program hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily.
(Students may arrive as early as 8:30 a.m. and depart no later than 3:45 p.m.)
When Does Registration Close?
Register early! Enrollment is limited and priority will be given to those who have met all registration requirements.
NEW CAMPERS and PARENTS ONLY must attend one of the following orientation sessions:
Wednesday, May 29, 2019 @ 6:00 p.m. (or)
Saturday, June 1, 2019 @ 10:00 a.m.
(Returning campers/parents are NOT required to attend an orientation session.)
