Sewer Overflow Advisory Key (SOAK)

The 2009 recreational boating season has concluded and the Sewer Overflow Advisory Key (SOAK) is now inactive.  SOAK status updates for next year's recreational boating season will commence on May 15, 2010.

CURRENT SOAK STATUS:  Green
Effective Date/Time:  Tuesday, September 29, 2009 / 11:40 p.m.
The system is in dry weather operation;
Use rivers, streams and creeks with care

During wet weather, conditions can change on area rivers, streams and creeks, making them less suitable for many recreational activities.  In addition to the hazards of fast-moving water and debris washed from land, sewers can overflow where they connect to the ALCOSAN collection system.  These overflows can be a source of bacteria that may be harmful if swallowed or exposed to an open wound.  This Sewer Overflow Advisory Key (SOAK) alerts the public when overflows in the ALCOSAN collection system are impacting area waterways during the recreational boating season, May 15 to September 30.  For a printable description of the SOAK program, click here.   To view all status changes for the 2009 recreational boating season, click here.

*Due to the possibility of high flows, floating debris washed from land and poor visability during wet weather conditions, extreme caution should be used in all activities.
