Learn to Prepare for Emergencies at ALCOSAN's Open House

September 14, 2017 – With all of the danger and damage caused by this season’s powerful hurricanes, it’s no wonder many people have questions about what they can do to remain safe in the event of an emergency.

During the 15th annual Open House on Saturday, ALCOSAN will host the Allegheny County Emergency Preparedness Booth with interactive games, educational resources and industry professionals on hand to discuss preparedness goals and initiatives. It is part of America's PrepareAthon!, a nationwide, community-based campaign for action, to increase emergency preparedness and community-wide resilience. By planning for severe weather and other emergencies, individuals can protect themselves and their families while contributing to the communities’ preparedness.

Visitors will be able to build an emergency preparedness kit, make a plan, sign up to host a disaster preparedness presentation and more. Literature will be available from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the National Weather Service, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), Pennsylvania Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network (PAWarn), Allegheny County Emergency Services, the American Red Cross and ALCOSAN. Representatives will be able to answer questions and make suggestions, and the booth also will feature interactive games and educational resources.

The booth is just one of the dozens of exhibits, demonstrators and tours that create an educational, fun-filled day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at ALCOSAN, 3300 Preble Avenue, on Pittsburgh’s far North Side.

The event is entirely free and open to the public. There is free parking and a free shuttle from the Port Authority’s T stations on the North Shore. Who ever said there’s no such thing as a free lunch never attended the Open House. And all guests will receive a coupon for a discount at the Carnegie Science Center – each adult admission ticket comes with a free child’s admission, good through November 1.

Everyone at ALCOSAN is eager to say hello and explain why the authority and its employees are 3 Rivers Proud.
