Saturday, September 18, 2010 is ALCOSAN's annual Open House, FREE and open to the public!  Join us for the region's largest watershed and environmental festival featuring treatment plant and laboratory tours, watershed life and microbiology presentations, hands-on environmental activities and exhibits, games, food and fun!

NEW FOR 2010:   ALCOSAN is collecting old cell phones to be recycled by eLoop llc, as a fundraiser for the Homeless Children's Education Fund. eLoop’s Last Call program is a convenient, environmentally friendly cell phone recycling program that keeps cell phones and their hazardous components out of landfills. Cell phones are recycled in an environmentally conscious fashion with all personal data securely destroyed, protecting both our planet and your personal information. Homeless Children’s Education Fund serves the homeless children of Allegheny County to ensure equal access to educational opportunities and experiences.  Cell phones will be collected at the registration booth at the Open House. ALSO:  ALCOSAN is working to reduce the waste footprint of the Open House event through the Waste Reduction Accomplishment Certification program from Zero Waste Pittsburgh.  Part of this initiative this is the composting of food wastes. Please be on the lookout for special food waste containers and dispose of materials as directed.
